Everything You Need to Know About Astrology

Want to learn more about astrology? In this article, you’ll find out everything you need to know about astrology and the twelve zodiac signs.

Astrology

Astrology is an ancient method for studying the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies such as the planets and the stars. According to astrologers, the movements of the planets have a huge impact on earthly affairs. Astrology can be very helpful because it offers us an approach to overcome our weaknesses, utilize our strengths, and fulfill our potential.

History of astrology

Studies have shown that the earliest evidence of astrology dates back to 3000 BC, Mesopotamia. However, Western astrology did not become popular until the influence of the ancient Greeks during the Hellenistic period (323-30 BC).

Until a short time ago, astrology was considered the same as astronomy. However, astrology is not a science like astronomy, so you should never confuse the two. Scientists study planets and stars to explain things like how the Earth revolves around the Sun and that’s astronomy. On the other hand, astrology is a pseudo-science and astrologers study the planets and the stars in order to predict the future, discover our personality or to find out which are our most compatible zodiac signs. These are not facts, so some people find it hard to believe in astrology.

But just because astrology isn’t scientific, that doesn’t mean we should rule it out. In fact, some of the first astrologers were highly intelligent philosophers who were very influential and played an important role in the astrological tradition over the past 3,000 years.

The Signs of The Zodiac

When people think of astrology, they generally think of the twelve signs of the zodiac and in particular, the sign that corresponds to their date of birth.

The horoscope is an astrological chart that represents the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets at the time of an individual’s birth and is also one of the most popular studies of astrology. The Sun moves across the sky through twelve different constellations every year. Each month of the year has a specific constellation and its own sign of the Zodiac. Astrologers believe that our zodiac sign influences our fundamental nature and helps determine the type of people we are.

The 12 signs of the zodiac are:

  • Aries – The Ram (March 21 to April 20)
  • Taurus – The Bull (April 21 to May 20)
  • Gemini – The Twins (May 21 to June 21)
  • Cancer – The Crab (June 22 to July 22)
  • Leo – The Lion (July 23 to August 22)
  • Virgo – The Virgin (August 23 to September 22)
  • Libra – The Scales (September 23 to October 22)
  • Scorpio – The Scorpion (October 23 to November 22)
  • Sagittarius – The Archer (November 23 to December 21)
  • Capricorn – The Sea-goat (December 22 to January 20)
  • Aquarius – The Water Bearer (January 21 to February 19)
  • Pisces – The Fish (February 20 to March 20)

Qualities and Elements

The sun signs share a few common features, which means that they can be grouped together in a variety of ways. The zodiac signs are commonly grouped in quadruplicities or qualities and triplicities or elements. Each of the signs of the zodiac has one of the three qualities which are cardinal, fixed, and mutable. The cardinal signs are Aries, Capricorn, Libra, and Cancer. The fixed signs are Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, and Scorpio. The mutable signs are Sagittarius, Virgo. Gemini, and Pisces.

Each of the signs also reflects the qualities of one of the four known elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. The fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The earth signs are Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo. The air signs are Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini, while the Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.
